The World Three Years Ago

photo:Archer

The following is a recording of different artist, poets, and political leaders on the topic of war which I published on November 18th, 2005.

It's always interesting to take a look back in tme.

Please take a moment to listen and contemplate.

You may not agree with the views expressed but I ask that you listen with an open mind to these artist's opinions.

We may not want to hear of the thousands of folks that have given their lives for this war but we cannot ignore their sacrifice.

Feel free to share this with friends and family.

A String of Light

It never fails that each week I get an email that brings me to tears from it's beauty.
The following email was sent to me from a young man named Matti C who is only 15 years old.
Although I never met him in person I can honestly say he's got a beautiful soul.

thank you Matti for making my day a little bit brighter.

-A

A String of Light
bt Matti C

Every thing I’ve ever suffered, and every thing I know,

Beaded on a string of light, to guide me back to home,

Forever every memory, emotion that I know, laced along a thread of light,

That dangles from my bones,

Implied, the sunless world inside could ever see a day,

Happiness is tightly sewn, forever beads away,

In darkness, do thus flowers bloom to care not of the sun,

They marry to the soil beds, And forever never run,

Every Hope, Heart, and Loving day, were Beaded on a string,

For miles would my happiness be sewn through glowing rings.

This is a poem I wrote, I didn’t really know how to tell you that you were inspiring just saying it wasn’t a enough. So I thought I’d show you, and I want to say thank you. There, is something about being 15yo, gay and uncomfortable about ones gender that makes it hard to connect with people.
But I when someone like you, who seems so comfortable with, Life, it gives me a whole new perspective. I don’t know, things like this, random letters of appreciation to people that you don’t know, (and they don’t know you) can often appear a little obsessive. So I’m done, I hope you get to read this.

With Love and peace
Matti C

The Boys of Boyce Avenue

photo: Anastasia

I usually don't like to promote people I've never met in person...but when you come across talent like Boyce Avenue it inspires.
Sure, these guys could be jerks, ya know, big assholes in real life, but they haven't been thus far so why not praise their talents?

Maybe I have a soft spot for their music because a) they do lots of pop covers and turn them into acoustic awesomeness, b) Alejandro Manzano the lead singer has an increadible voice, c) they got their shit together, d) they and I have at least one thing in common - FLORIDA.

Boyce Avenue, a Florida-based band popular for its strong acoustic roots and constant drive toward a melody- and harmony-driven rock sound, consists of the three brothers Alejandro, Fabian, and Daniel Manzano, and Stephen Hatker.

Being that music has always played a big role in my life, choirs from k-12, community theater (musicals), having fronted two rock bands: Lydian Zero, and No Subordination, recorded hooks for artist like Soce, sang back up for Brad Walsh, let us not forget my experimental phase and the fact that I'm currently recording a few original tracks with a great music producer, I could not help myself and had to add background vocals to one of Boyce's awesome medleys.

Now this was mostly for my enjoyment since I tend to add background harmonies to just about any acoustic song that I listen to. Naturally when Alejandro did a medley of Alicia Keys "No One", Jordin Sparks "Tattoo" (American Idol) and Black Eyed Peas "Where Is The Love" (Fergie) ft. Justin Timberlake I simply had to add some background vocals.

They didn't ask me to do this, and frankly I hope they don't mind. The recording is not mastered and it's mostly in it's raw stages but I tried mixing it to the best of my ability.

Take and listen and enjoy.

Uruguay-man in New York

"I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York"

Maybe it's the fact that I couldn't vote in this past election (I'm not a U.S. Citizen) that got me singing Sting's 1987 hit "Englishman in New York."
I was only 7 years old when the record came out but I still remember listening to this song on the radio and loving it.

Not too long ago I picked up a copy of the CD "Nothing like the Sun" on a New york city sidewalk which someone had placed in a box with a few other cds and books. New Yorkers do that. They toss away little treasures in boxes and placed them on the sidewalk with signs that read "Take One."

It is true what they say, one man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Sting has been on rotation for two days now. It's amazing that an album can be so good even after 21 years.
