Straight Boy?

(Me and editor of Mollygood.com Cord Jefferson who is straight) photo: Brad Walsh

It's happened to me three times recently.
My gaydar is way off!!!!
Twice I thought someone was straight and both times it turned out they were gay.
And in the past few days someone I thought was gay turned out to be straight.

I am rusty.

Four Wonderful Days

Thursday - I went to support my friend Jonathan in the Columbia University version of "A New Brain." It was a wonderful show and Jonathan has the most amazing voice...not to mention he's got a hot bod!!!

Friday - I attended a Community Vigil for Lawrence King where I took some photos. Very moving. A big Thank You to my friends that came out to support.

Saturday - I did a photo shoot with Will & Will . Their five year anniversary is coming up!! The photos are part of a photo project I'm working on plus an anniversary present

Sunday - I photo shoppped a few more photos for Gali and edited and posted an Amnesia video teaser.

Also, Saturday after the photo shoot as I was going to dim sum with Will and Will, I met a nice guy, one of Will's neighbors, and I gave him my business card. I thought he was straight at first and gave him my card thinking he's a creative person, I'm a creative person, let's get together sometime. He emailed me that night. Turns out he's not straight and he thinks I'm cute : )
We might go on a date this Thursday.

Life is good.

Today

Yesterday was a very sad day. Day of Silence.
Today was a fantastic day.
Filled with life.
I did a photo shoot with a real life gay couple of 5 years.
They are both named Will.
And they were both born on the same day!!!!
I spent the whole day with them and they filled my heart with joy and hope.
Love is real.
And you too can have it.
Just look at Will and Will.

Day Of Silence

Friday I'll be attending a Community Vigil in Memory of Lawrence King and other LGBTQ Youth Victims of Violence.

I'm extending this invitation to you.

When and where:
Friday, April 25 - 6PM to 8PM - Christopher Street Park, Manhattan

I know some of you are not gay but you are an ally in our fight against hate crimes.
You know you'd be furious if someone would physically hurt me for being gay.

If you can't come out it's ok, I made a short video to spread awareness of national "Day of Silence" which will be this Friday, April 25
Feel free to post it on your blog and/or pass it around.

I hope to see you on Friday
thank you for taking the time to read this and for caring.
big hugs to you my friend,
-Adrian

Mix Tapes and Bloopers

Are you old enough to remember "mix tapes?"
You know, that's when you record a bunch of different songs to a tape and then you give it to someone special in your life. Mix CDs are basically the same thing except they're not as retro.
Check out this cool site my roommate Vanessa forward to me where you can hear all sorts of mix tapes.

Oh, and here's Vanessa and I earlier this year filming a video for her job...we ended up with what seemed hours of bloopers. Here's only two and a half minutes of fun. Watch till the end. We have a laugh fest.

Hope that puts a smile on your face.
Have a great weekend.

Say What?

My friends think I'm full of shit when I tell them that strangers email me to tell me how much they like my art, photography, videos, or my alter ego Amnesia Sparkles. They are like "What the hell is so special about you Adrian? You are just Adrian."

I know, I know, I'm just a simple kinda guy but that doesn't stop folk from letting me know what my art means to them and I love that they do...although there are times where I'm not sure what it is they are trying to communicate to me.

For example take the following email I recently got from Giuseppe. Can you make out what it is Giuseppe is trying to say?

I is to be had found very happily you I tell to you sometimes the history I wanted to look with youtube after urge like they itself make up on it there I have also bumped your video and have it to me already so often respectably then I have visited yours official internetseite and have seen you with myspace are and has tried anyhow it does not work you to adden, however, without success I find your pictures really fantastically, by the way, My name is giuseppe I would be glad very much if with myspace clapped to many thank and see you soon love*light and 200 kisses

Giuseppe ends the email with "love*light and 200 kisses" which is all that needed to say.

Thank you Giuseppe.
Love and Kisses right back to ya!

Smarty Pants, Book.

As you may know I'm writing a book, which is funny to me because I read like a second grader.

Not only am I writing a book but I'm also reading a book. Every Day Zen by Charlotte Joko Beck.
It was laying about in my living room so I picked it up. I think it belongs to one of my roommates.
Anyway, in one of the beginning pages it talks about not being in the moment. How our minds have a million ideas and worries and it's hard to focus on the here and now. I can totally relate.

The great thing about books is that you are focusing on one task and if its a good book it's like an old friend keeping you company and guiding you through exciting adventures.

I like the idea that once I finish writing my book I'll be able to have a one on one with people and tell them all the things that I never have time to tell them.
I'm really excited...even if the only person that reads it is my mom.

I'm so excited in fact that I'm becoming impatient. I want to finish writing it soon...maybe I should get a ghost writer.

Maybe I can hire the kid in the following video to be my ghost writer? He'll make me sound smart.

Vitality

I started writing down my thoughts on this blog entry...then I read what I had written and realized I made it all sound so complicated.

Sometimes I feel like my brain tries to explain things in long division form, when other people's brains use calculators instead.
Long division is not really popular these days, you know, with all the A.D.D. and stuff. So how about I give you the calculator version of my thoughts today, brought to you by my mentor and idol Joseph Campbell

"The influence of a vital person vitalizes. The way to bring a world to life is to be alive yourself."

The accounts of the past few days have given me a new vitality. I could go into detail but
1 - I don't know if anyone is reading this and
2 - I think you should read this short entry and go out into the world and be vital.

A smile is a great place to start. try it. Smile right now. it will give you a boost like a shot of espresso. And the best part is that unlike a shot of espresso it won't make you run to the crapper.

:)

R.I.P. Salvador

He lived a good life.
Over 3 years.
They told me he'd only live 2 years.

Weird thing is that last night I dreamt that he died. When I came home from work today he was dead.

Here's an entry I wrote in my old blog when I got Salvador.

1-12-05
On a brighter note, last night I got a new roommate. His name is Salvador and he's a stunning red little Betta fish. I can't say that I cried out of joy when I got him but I am as excited as a little school girl to have him in my life. You see I never really had a pet of my own, one that I've purchased and maintained myself. Yesterday I went to the pet store and found Salvador staring at me, begging me to give him a bigger home than the small cup he was in. I bought him a cute fish bowl of a home and made a place in my room for him. I even cut out a small print of the painting "Dali Lifting the Skin of the Mediterranean Sea to Show Gala the Birth of Venus" and taped it to the bowl so he too can enjoy a little art as he swims around and around in his own little world.

Here's Salvador, the movie star he is in 2005 for an Amnesia commercial.
R.I.P. I'll miss you buddy.
:(

Don't Judge a Book by....

Last night I had dinner with my future book editor. Who? What? When?
I can't even begin to tell you how many projects I'm currently working on, too many to mention, but one of them is a book I started writing a few years back.
It's finally starting to take the shape I want and so I met up with an old friend of mine to recruit him as part of my book team. The man is amazing with worlds. He can turn my half-ass broken English into a Shakespeare master piece...well, ok it might not end up being that great of a book but it will definitely be good enough to be on Reading Rainbow.

I've given myself a year to complete it. Why a year? Because I must include the chapter of me returning to Uruguay after 17 years. Something tells me that might change my life...hopefully in a good way.

No More Drama

There is nothing like two people having the same adversary to bring them together...

I'm not gonna go into my own personal drama right now...I tend to save the info for the book I'm writing, but what is it with people that can't seem to go a day without seeking some sort of drama?

Really, it's so counterproductive. I guess, they either like it or they simply don't know how to live without it... addicted, like a smoker to cigarettes.

Well, we all have our own little drama we have to deal with but isn't it silly in comparison to what's happening in the world today...unless, you're dealing with some heavy stuff like murder and illness and such, in which case I'm sending you positive vibes. You'll get out of it soon...I hope.

I got some juicy drama to tell you...maybe I'll tell you later.

Sing it Mary J.

Grapes and Cheese

Saturday's performance was a blast.
I met some of the most wonderful people at the GLBT Expo that day.
I can't get over it.
I'd forgotten how much fun being Amnesia on stage was.
Note to self: Amnesia needs to perform more often.
I hope to have photos and video soon.

Sunday was clean up day.
I had ignored my living space and it cried for a good cleaning.
Being domestic can be quite fun.
Then friends visited at night made staying home even more enjoyable.
Also having to pee in a container all day yesterday was a blast.
the Doc will be testing for kidney stones.

Today was a day full of chores and responsibility like doing one's taxes and stopping by the doctor's to drop off urine.
GOLD I tell you...liquid GOLD!

I have many emails and calls to return...but I'm not stressing myself over it.

I thought of my ex as I did some grocery shopping today.
Grapes, he loved grapes.
I'll always think of him every time I see grapes.
I'll know I'll be over him the day I bring myself to eat grapes again.
Cheesy I know...grapes and cheese are a great combo...or so I used to think.

Stupid People or UR STOOPED, STOOPED!

I realized something very important this morning on my way to work.
I realized that I don't hate all stupid people, I only hate the ones that don't realize they are stupid.
I know I'm plenty stupid, so clearly I tolerate myself and people as stupid as I...as me?
But stupid people that think they are smart need to be slapped in the face.
No no, I don't advocate violence, but who hasn't had the desire to slap the stupid out of someone?

The stupid people I hate not only think they are smart but they are generally mean, loud, bossy, condescending, and just plain nasty.
The other type of stupid people are wonderful. We know we are stupid. How can we not be, when there is so much information in the world. We have to stay humble and considerate. We try to be polite and we try to listen to others since they might have something to teach us...unless they are the other kind of stupid people, in which case "slap".

Now I'm stupid enough to know that one person could be both kinds of stupid in a lifetime - heck, I'm usually both in an hour's time, but remember that stupidity is like physical ugliness in the sense that it can be either nature or nurture.

Next time a stupid person annoys you, look at them straight in the eyes and ask them sincerely from the bottom of your kind heart:

"Were you born this stupid or have you had to practice?"

Have a great weekend!

Gonna Make U Sweat!

Hey Adrian,

I was wondering if you know any good, fast Latin tunes I can download to my IPod. We don't get any Latin influence here in the frozen North, and it's really good to listen to while I'm running. (Either that or I have to watch reruns of Scrubs over and over on the treadmill!) Think it over and let me know. Hope your day is full of sunshine (and not snow!) :)

Love,
Erin

------

Hey sista-friend. Spanish music is really run to listen to when jogging. You'll need something high speed. As fun as Salsa can be Merengue is what you really need.

There's a group from Florida called "La Makina" which stands for "The Machine" and all their songs sound a bit similar but they are super fun.

Their first album is my favorite.

Here's what they sound like

If you would like a familiar voice and something more pop Shakira's first album "Pies Descalzos" has some great dance tracks. It's all in Spanish but I think she sounds a lot better than in English. In English she sounds like a muppet.

here's one of the songs from the album

These are old CDs so you should be able to get them on Amazon for just a couple bucks.

Hope that helps.

sending you much love.

I'm Angelina's Baby Scouter

Have you subscribed to my YouTube channel or have become my friend on the site we call MySpace recently?
Have you emailed me about two months ago and I still have not replied?

I know, I know, I'm a very very bad person.
But can you blame me? I've been super busy.
I don't know if you know this but I'm working as Angelina Jolie's baby scouter. Whenever I see a cute baby on the street, in a store, or at a restaurant my job is to take a photo of the baby and send it to Angelina to see if she wants them. 9 times out of 10 she says they aren't Black enough, or dirty looking enough, or Asian enough. I guess scouting for babies on Park ave is not the best locaiton...wait what was my point?

I just wanted to say THANK YOU. Thank you for showing any sort of interest in what I do. I'll try my best to get back to you soon as I can...unless Angelina has me on one of those scouting marathons. She can be such an adoption Nazi.

here are some of my new favorite You tube peeps.

Enjoy.
